713 Rhode Island Street Kitchen remodel
Our client wants to remodel their kitchen. The old kitchen didn't have a natural ight access and ceiling height was lower. So we decided to design a beautiful generous size skylight on the existing kitchen roof.
The former Union Iron Works Convalescent Hospital (also known as the Mission Bay Convalescent Hospital) is a historic resource that has been converted to 7 residential units. The structure is a two-story over basement, reinforced concrete, Renaissance Revival-style hospital building constructed in 1916 for the employees of Bethlehem Steel, who worked at the Pier 70 shipyard. The street façade has been preserved and restored and the interior reimagined for 2 one-story and 5 townhouse units. Each of the units was composed around the exposed concrete columns and walls to create large open living spaces, focused on the views. Interior floors and the roof were saw cut and skylights added to provide natural light into the 15 foot high interior spaces. Private roof decks and second floor terraces were added to partake in the fantastic views of the San Francisco skyline, bay, and East Bay hills. The 3 four-story Mexican Palm trees that tower over the project remained intact and inspired the addition of 2 new smaller palm trees flanking the front entry stairs.

On a very steep vacant parcel of land below Leona Canyon Trail Head recreation area, are proposed homes. The houses are 3 stories in height over basement garages. The houses step up the site and are articulated with large bay windows and terraces. The facades include a variety of materials and the large glass openings provide light to the interiors. Each of the homes will have roof decks to appreciate the South views.
